Drop-off zones

# Drop-off zones: brief stops outside schools and stations

A drop-off zone only works if nobody stays in it. At school opening and closing times, or outside a station, a few parked cars are enough to block the queue. With QR Blue, drivers who leave their vehicle declare their stop by scanning the QR code; beyond a few minutes, officers see it immediately.

## What municipalities face

### Parents parking in the drop-off zone

A few cars parked while children are walked to school are enough to block the whole queue at school times.

### A queue spilling onto the road

Waiting cars double-park or stop on pedestrian crossings, at the expense of children's safety.

### Abuse that is hard to prove

Without a known arrival time, officers cannot tell a three-minute stop from half an hour of parking.

### Rules that change with the time of day

A drop-off zone often only makes sense at school opening and closing times: the rest of the time, the space can be unrestricted.

## What QR Blue brings

- A QR code on each drop-off sign, scanned in a few seconds
- A very short duration per zone (for example 5 or 10 minutes), without extension
- Regulated time slots per zone: days, hours and months of application, public holidays excluded
- A minimum wait between two stops to prevent chained declarations
- Checks by plate or by QR code, with each vehicle's authorised end time
- Statistics per zone: number of stops, average duration, expired stops

## Frequently asked questions

### Must a stop be declared if the driver stays at the wheel?

That depends on your by-law. Most often, the declaration is required from drivers who leave their vehicle, for example to walk a child to school.

### Can the drop-off zone be limited to school hours?

Yes. Each zone has its own time slots: days of the week, hours and months of application, public holidays excluded. Outside them, the page says no declaration is required.

### Do parents need to install an app?

No: the QR code opens a web page. The plate is pre-filled from the second visit, and declaring takes a few seconds.

### How do officers spot abuse?

By scanning the drop-off zone's QR code or entering the plate: they see ongoing stops, their end time and those that have overstayed.

### Are authorised vehicles affected?

Vehicles whose badge is authorised on the zone (school transport, disabled drivers, municipal services) are exempted automatically.
